Olectra Greentech says it has reached 4,000 electric buses deployed on Indian roads, with its 4,000th vehicle handed over as part of a 297-unit deployment for Himachal Road Transport Corporation.
The milestone was announced by the Hyderabad-based manufacturer on 30 July 2026 during a flag-off ceremony for the 297 Olectra electric buses entering the HRTC fleet in Himachal Pradesh.
According to Olectra Greentech, it is the first company in India to reach 4,000 electric buses deployed in the country. The manufacturer states that its vehicles are currently operating across multiple Indian states and cities.
India registered 2,944 electric buses between January and June 2026. According to data published by the Vahan Dashboard, India’s electric bus market recorded 2,944 vehicle registrations during the first six months of 2026, Switch Mobility, JBM and PMI Electro Mobility Solutions together represented 70% of total registrations. Compared to the same period of 2025, Indian e-bus market grew +40%.
Olectra has registered 280 units in the first half of this year, with its market share dramatically decreasing to 9.5% vs the 22.3% achieved last year.
Olectra reaches 4,000 electric buses deployed in India
The 4,000th electric bus was symbolically handed over to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri during the ceremony.
The event also marked the induction of 297 Olectra electric buses into the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) fleet and was attended by representatives of the Government of Himachal Pradesh, HRTC and Olectra Greentech.
Olectra states that its 4,000 electric buses have collectively travelled more than 730 million kilometres. Based on these figures, this corresponds to an average of approximately 182,500 kilometres per vehicle across the deployed fleet.

The latest deployment adds 297 vehicles to the HRTC fleet. The company did not provide technical specifications for the buses in the announcement, including vehicle length, battery capacity, charging system or claimed operating range.
Olectra Greentech cites its existing order book and contracts with state transport undertakings among its current electric bus activities in India.
The company has not disclosed in the release the breakdown of the 4,000 deployed vehicles by model, operator or individual state.
