Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT, S Krishnan, today said that India currently accounts for nearly 20 percent of the world’s semiconductor design workforce. He said that the government has placed substantial emphasis on design talent, with an ongoing program to train approximately 85 thousand design engineers. Talking to the media on the sidelines of SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi, Mr Krishnan said that the government will give priority to all aspects of skill development, with a strong focus on semiconductor manufacturing.
The Electronics and IT Secretary noted that all investment proposals received at SEMICON will be thoroughly evaluated. Mr. Krishnan said the government will actively encourage companies and investors to work closely with them to promote investments in the semiconductor sector.
